The KMA is committed to making sure that the groundbreaking Bisa Butler: Portraits exhibition does not go unseen. We plan to extend this powerful show at least until August 2, 2020, with the hope that the Museum will reopen before that time. In the meantime, the KMA offers thes following opportunities to engage with the exhibition.
Slideshow: includes an overview of the works in artist Bisa Butler's first solo museum exhibition, as well as the inspiration behind each image.
Virtual Tour: a great way to get a sense of the scale and intricacy of Butler's monumental yet intimate quilted portraits.
Catalogues: read about the artist's life and the inspiration behind her stunning works. It includes essays by Curator Michele Wije and Associate Curator, Department of Textiles at the Art Institute of Chicago, Erica Warren.

VIRTUAL SLOW ART DAY on SATURDAY, APRIL 4 from 2:00 – 3:00 PM
Join us virtually, via Zoom, this Saturday to celebrate #SlowArtDay. Slow Art Day is a global event with a simple mission to help more people discover the joy of looking at and loving art. Observing a work slowly allows for discoveries and new perspectives. Art can be an oasis, a place to find relaxation and calm. It can help you make meaning out of the madness. We all benefit from art and access to art, even and perhaps especially in times of public crisis.
The goal of Slow Art Day is to focus on the art and the art of seeing. For this year's event, join two of the KMA's docents for an in-depth conversation about a selection of works in the Bisa Butler: Portraits exhibition. Before the discussion, find a quiet space. Close your eyes, take a deep breath, and let it out slowly. Now open your eyes, and engage with the works, spending about 15 minutes slowly looking at each one. What thoughts come to mind?
