Attempted Luring of Student at Fox Lane Middle School

Dr. Christopher Manno, Superintendent of Schools in a letter to BCSD families and community members shared news of the recent attempted luring of a student which took place today. Please see his letter below.

Today, an attempted luring of a Fox Lane Middle School student was reported to have occurred at approximately 3 p.m. on the corner of Parkview Place and Lafayette Street in Mount Kisco. It was reported that a male driving a dark-colored SUV attempted to talk a student into getting into the SUV. The student did exactly the right thing by running away and finding the nearest trusted adult to provide assistance.

The matter was reported to the Mount Kisco and Westchester County Police Departments, who are actively investigating, in collaboration with our Bedford PD School Resource Officer. I have been assured that additional patrols will be deployed around and near our bus stops in this area next week.

The MKPD and WCPD encourage residents of our towns to contact them if you have any questions regarding these incidents. In the case of an emergency, please call 911. For non-emergency inquiries, contact the following or your local police department non-emergency number:

Mount Kisco Police Department Phone Number: (914) 864-1133

Westchester County Department of Public Safety Phone Number: (914) 864-7904

Our schools advise students about the importance of being cautious in the presence of strangers. Specifically, we reinforce to our children in a developmentally appropriate manner how to ensure their safety. The following are appropriate and helpful statements for young children:

  • Reinforce to children that they are safe at school.
  • Reinforce to children if they encounter anything in their community that makes them feel uncomfortable, they should seek out the nearest trusted adult.
  • Remind children that if they see something out of the ordinary, they should tell a trusted adult.
  • Tell children if they are approached by a stranger, they should not talk to the stranger and should immediately run to the nearest familiar place or adult.

Our clinicians are always available for student or parent questions or concerns. Please call your building principal with any additional inquiries.

Remember, if you see something, say something. Please contact the police if you see or feel anything of concern. It is our collective responsibility to keep our children safe. Thank you for your assistance in this regard.
