Jacob Burns Film Center Brings Tunes, Drama and Rock 'N' Roll This Summer

Music, dance and theater lovers near and far are invited to join the Jacob Burns Film Center (Pleasantville, NY) this summer for an extensive entertainment line-up filled with tunes, drama, and rock ‘n’ roll.

Sounds of Summer 2018: Music Films, Old and NewGet ready, because the Beatles, Rolling Stones, Led Zeppelin and other musical legends are coming to the Jacob Burns Film Center. From July 8th – August 23rd guests can enjoy an extensive slate of music films that showcase insightful and intimate documentaries about diverse musicians, young and old, along with brilliant musical performances.

Kicking off opening night with a reception on July 8th, JBFC will be showing the Beatles’ Yellow Submarine. Brimming with peace, love, and hope this 4K restoration provides a happy reminder of the power of music to make the world a better place. Showing July 30th will be the new sing-along version.

On July 11th & 12th guests can rock-out with the showing of the Rolling Stone: Stories from the Edge. A special Q&A with filmmakers Alex Gibney and Blair Foster will follow after the 11th. This two-part film chronicles the last 50 years of American music, politics, and popular culture through the perspective of Rolling Stone. The iconic magazine always understood that rock ‘n’ roll was more than music—it was a cultural force that helped shape America and defined generations. An exhilarating visual and musical experience narrated by Jeff Daniels, the film features performances by Bruce Springsteen, Tina Turner, Janis Joplin, the Rolling Stones, the Sex Pistols, the Clash, and Ice-T as it showcases the superb, groundbreaking work of the magazine’s many influential writers.

Singer-songwriter and actress Amber Rubarth will be performing her original music at JBFC on August 22nd. Rubarth’s performance will take place after a Q&A with JBFC founder Steve Apkon and the showing of American Folk. In this warm-hearted drama, folk musicians Amber Rubarth and Joe Purdy play Joni and Elliot, a couple of strangers who are thrown together by circumstance in the days after 9/11. Stranded in California, they end up taking a road trip to New York, making music-powered connections with all kinds of strangers along the way.

JBFC’s World Stage on Screen series brings the best of international theater and fine arts to the silver screen. This series is ongoing throughout the year, but guests can enjoy a unique selection of live recorded Opera, Ballet, Shakespeare’s classic Romeo & Juliet and more this summer.
