Harvey Middle Schoolers Faring Well in Statewide Robotics Tourneys

Four Harvey Middle School robotics teams, busy competing in New York State regional tournaments in February, have found their fair share of success and looking for more.

Competing in a regional; tournament in Queens at the beginning of the month, MS Team Y, featuring sixth-graders Nick Ritenis and Richard Sullivan and eighth-grader Blake Friedman, finished in first place and took home the Teamwork Champion trophy.

On Feb. 8, the Harvey Middle School RoboCavs traveled to Glen Cove, New York, where the seventh-grade Team Z with Goldens Bridge residents Logan Alexander and Ryan Byrne, along with Lucien Fried, finished first in the qualifying round but came up a little short in the final match. Meanwhile, Team X with eighth-graders Annissa Khanna and Avery Kahn, and sixth-grader Ryan Dey earned the Design Award at that competition.

All three of these Harvey Middle School teams have qualified for states and are preparing for the Feb. 29 Southern NYS VEX IQ Championships in Locust Valley, New York. The last regular-season tournament will take place Feb. 22 at Vaughn College where the fourth Harvey Middle School robotics team will be looking to qualify for the state tournament.
