Ask the Mayor:
When is Milford's Leaf Pickup?
Milford issues a Press Release which includes the start date which is in November and runs through the first snowfall.
Where do the leaves go?
We recycle them. Each year, we put it out to bid and it was just awarded to Grillo Services who picks them up and they are recycled.
What are your plans for the Milford Animal Shelter?
A couple of articles were published, and my position is still the same - there are no present plans to move the Milford Animal Shelter I know that it's something that was brought up several times.
Are there more debates scheduled?
Not that I know of. There was one at the First Church, there was another at West Shore Middle School where we talked to the 8th Grades, and the one on News Channel 12 which you can watch online.
Is there a plan to fix the roads and sidewalks damaged by the snow and storms.
We are constantly fixing them. We pave 6-10 miles of city roads each year. In terms of storm damage, we have done a lot of work, and we are almost done repairing all of the storm damage. This year, we have a particular focus on improving our walkways and our pathways under the Walkable City Initiative which uses local, state, and federal funds to improve sidewalks and walkways across our whole city. Particular emphasis is focused on our downtown area, near the schools so our kids have a safe place to walk to and from (school), and around our parks and our beaches.
Residential sidewalks are the responsibility of the homeowner. Sidewalks, curbs, and gutters are the responsibility of the homeowner to maintain. If a contractor damages your sidewalk, you would contact the contractor responsible to initiate repairs to make it right. Ordinance 20-25.
Editor's Note:
What is leaf recycling: A representative from Grillo Services explained that the leaves are picked up, shredded, mixed with other organic materials such as grass clippings and then turned every three to six months which helps the matter to break down. It's then processed to remove any twigs, and left to sit a while longer until it can be either mixed with topsoil or used as compost.
