Why Small Businesses Matter

Shop small, do big things for your community

Why Small Businesses Matter puts a spotlight on the local merchants who donate their time, talent, goods, and services for the betterment of our community. The shop local movement spreads virally as local businesses who are “tagged” have the opportunity to share their story!

You're IT SALT Design Studio!

Three questions with Katie Geddes, owner of SALT Design Studio.

Why did you start your business?

A few years ago, I was at a crossroads in my career, and completely unsure where I was going and what lied ahead for me.  So instead of leaving it to fate, I decided to craft my own path and my own story.  Design was a passion and something I loved, was naturally good at, and was doing as a hobby, so I decided to go for it and make it official. My worst fear is looking back years from now and thinking, “I wonder if…”.  I’m taking a risk, for sure, but I’ll never regret trying.  Plus, I refuse to fail.

Best selling product/service?

Full Service Styling & Decorating.  A lot of people book a consultation, so they can get ideas, and execute themselves…but then I find they always come back and ask, “can you just do it for me?”

How many local businesses do you use to support your business (products and services) and can you name them?

I use six – Downtown Milford Business Association (DMBA); EPIC (Emerging Professionals Inspiring Change) an organization through the Chamber of Commerce; Milford Bank; Tax Services of Milford; Artee Fabrics & Home; and Shift Design + Marketing.
