St. Mary Preschool in Milford to Become a PreKindergarten

We have exciting news to announce regarding some changes that will happen in St. Mary's Preschool for the 2022-23 school year.

After much research, thought and feedback from families, we will be revamping our current preschool to become prekindergarten.  It will still be the wonderful, warm, loving space that we have worked so hard to create over the past 35 years, but with more intentional integration of curriculum, new lessons, and educational techniques. The main difference is a prekindergarten is more learning-based using class instruction guidance set forth by the Archdiocese of Hartford. There will still be plenty of playtime, and our teachers remain committed to making these crucial early years full of tender loving care.

They look forward to continuing to teach and nurture their students as they grow to become school ready and able to meet the expectations of kindergarten and beyond. To help us accomplish this, we are in the process of hiring an Assistant Principal/Director of Early Child Education.  This person will be based in the Prekindergarten building and will work under the guidance of the Principal to oversee the Prekindergarten and Kindergarten programs of St. Mary School.

This is a giant step forward and a valuable, timely addition to our school. We'd like to thank our School Board and Finance Committee for approving and providing funding for this important position. Another way we'll be achieving these strides forward is by implementing the Catechesis of the Good Shepherd program.

This is a Montessori-based method of teaching religion, and we are very excited to welcome this in classrooms. We are also currently accepting applications for next year, and certain classes are already at capacity.
