Neighborhood Music School Classes Are Open For Fall Enrollment in Music, Dance & Drama

New Haven, CT - [August 16, 2023] - Enrollment is now open at Neighborhood Music School (NMS) for the 2023-2024 academic year.

NMS has expanded its catalog with new offerings this fall including new classes in African Dance and African Drumming, as well as an even bigger catalog of beginner piano classes and modern and tap dance classes.

The school, founded in 1911, welcomes beginner and seasoned artists to explore and develop their dance, music, or acting skills in a community environment in the heart of New Haven’s Arts District.

"I look forward every fall to the return of our students and the fresh energy they bring to our community," said Noah Bloom, Neighborhood Music School Executive Director. "We take pride that a school of our size exists in a state as small as Connecticut, providing 30,000 hours of instruction each year. There may be no other place in the state that brings together people from so many different neighborhoods and communities to learn, perform, and build lasting relationships.”

NMS is dedicated to ensuring everyone in the broader New Haven community has access to arts education. The school offers wraparound enrollment services ensuring that prospective students can browse courses, apply for financial aid, and get personalized guidance to find the right classes.

NMS believes equity in arts education is essential. Nearly $500,000 of financial aid and free programming supports close to 400 students every year.

NMS was founded as a social service agency providing free music education to local immigrants. The legacy of expansive education continues through financial aid programs, including DELTA, a tuition-free music, dance, drama, and leadership program offered to New Haven Public School middle and high school students.

Education at NMS fits all ages, experiences, and budgets. One-on-one lessons are offered on more than 30 instruments and in a variety of dance styles. Beyond that, classes and ensembles provide a community education, at a reasonable cost. Many classes run from September through May, ensuring that students build on growth throughout the year. Students who have returned to NMS over the years have found a robust community to grow and create with as they develop their artistry.
