This year we are once again hosting our all ages, community read program, One City, One Story. In past years we have chosen three titles, linked by a common theme, for children, teens and adults.
This year we are breaking with that tradition, and choosing one title, The United States Constitution. Political discourse has gotten polarized and fragmented, with the words of the Constitution being used to justify widely varying points of view. In an effort to help us all become better informed citizens, we will have copies of the Constitution available for free at the Library (while supplies last), beginning in September. Programs promoting civic engagement have been occurring, and On Septemebr 20 we welcome back Capital Community College Professor, Hamish Lutris, who will present an engaging and entertaining look at the background of the Constitution. This program is generously funded by the Gale Gokey Brown Series on Civic Engagement.
The Friends of the Library will be hosting their annual fundraiser, Party in the Stacks, on October 21, 7:00pm-10:00pm. This year's theme is "Where Mystery and Romance Meet" and plans are being made to transform the library with iconic images from books and movies. This is a 21+ event featuring themed hors d'oeuvres, specialty cocktails, costumes (optional), dancing, raffles, and more! Tickets can be purchased online (tinyurl.com/FOMLPITS) or in person (cash/check only) at the library. Ticket prices are $50.00 through September 30, $60.00 beginning October 1.
