NBC Connecticut and Telemundo Connecticut are once again partnering with Make-A-Wish Connecticut for their annual "Miles for Smiles" campaign starting this Monday, January 25 and culminating in a big, exciting surprise on Friday, January 29.
The pandemic has caused Make-A-Wish Connecticut to postpone nearly 150 wishes at a time when wish kids need hope the most. That means that close to 150 wish kids are in the pipeline waiting to travel. Make-A-Wish Connecticut is preparing NOW to ensure these wishes can be granted as soon as it is safe. And when it is safe, Make-A-Wish takes care of everything on a travel wish – including airfare, car rental or airport pickup, and hotel. And because of the pandemic, the organization's revenue is projected to be down by 50%.
"If you have ever thought about wanting to support us – with either monetary donations or airline miles - the time is now," said Pam Keough, President & CEO, Make-A-Wish Connecticut. "In these times, hope is essential for children with critical illnesses. By granting a wish, these kids receive so much more than a temporary escape. They gain a wellspring of strength to keep fighting for better days. A child’s wish begins with hope and hope begins with YOU.”
From Monday, January 25 through Friday, January 29, 2021, the community can donate unused airline miles or make monetary donations online to help Make-A-Wish Connecticut grant wishes to local children with critical illnesses. For airline miles donations, visit milesforsmiles.wish.org; for monetary donations, please visit ct.wish.org/donate. Or, viewers can call (855) 622-2830 to make all donations by phone.
Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, many people are not traveling, yet their airline miles may expire. Miles donated to Make-A-Wish will not expire once transferred to the organization and will help offset costs to purchase flights for wish kids and their families when it is safe to travel.
Participating Airlines are United Airlines, Delta Airlines, American Airlines and JetBlue. If you have accumulated a small number of miles on different airlines, it might take a long time to accumulate enough miles for a free ticket. Make-A-Wish can combine donated miles to make a real difference. Whether it is 1,000, 3,000, 5,000, 10,000 miles or more, your donation will help make a travel wish come true.
