Milford Library Presents From Seneca Falls to the 19th Amendment: Songs of American Woman Suffrage

The 19th amendment to the Constitution was adopted on August 18, 1920, and with its passage women were finally allowed to vote.

Please join Milford Library at 7pm, via Zoom, in celebrating this achievement with an evening of song and celebration. The struggle for woman suffrage was an important and hard-fought step toward gender equality.  Music was one of the significant tools used in the crusade for a woman’s right to vote.  Songs were composed to advance (and to oppose) the agenda.  This program presents some of the most engaging and interesting songs of the movement, with historical commentary, and a Power Point presentation, in commemoration of the centennial of a woman’s right to vote in America.

The music is performed by Rick Spencer, Rick Spencer is recognized internationally for his work as a developer and presenter of theme-based historic music programs in the American folk tradition. His presentations are well researched, informative and highly entertaining. He will be joined in song with Dawn Indermuehle. Spencer’s resume includes 20 years as a staff musician, researcher, and program developer at Mystic Seaport Museum. Indermuehle is responsible for reasearching and developing program material and creating period-appropriate vocal accompaniment on a wide range of historical songs from throughout American history.
