Get creative and SANDY! The deadline for sand sculpture photos is August 28!

New England’s favorite Sand Sculpture Competition is going virtual, so this year we have no borders and time is in our favor. Come on Cape Cod! Come on California! Come on Clearwater! Even Croatia! ANYONE from ANYWHERE can enter! Just build your most creative sand sculpture on the beach of your choice, snap a pic by August 28th, and follow the instructions below to enter. All ages and skill levels are welcome. We trust that you will follow all COVID safety protocols.

Hosted by Milford Arts Council and proudly sponsored by Milford Bank, this event has been a tradition for over 40 years, drawing people from up and down the East Coast. This year, we can’t wait to see how far we can expand our reach! Create anything from lobsters to mermaids to astronauts. Be as creative as you’d like! We’ll announce winners online in various categories including Quaranteams, Families, and Individuals plus $100 gift card for People’s Choice Award!

HOW DO I ENTER?

1 - follow us on facebook: milford arts council or instagram: milford.arts in order to be eligible.

2 - send a pic of your sand sculpture to info@milfordarts.org by August 28th with the following information:

name | team name & category | team members with ages |

name of sand sculpture | social media info | city and beach |

donation amount (amount does not affect standing, but donation allows you to be considered for awards)

Categories are: Quaranteam Category (15 to adult); Quaranteam Category (under 15 may be supervised by adult); Family Category (blood relatives); Couples Category (any duo); Singles Category (individual)

3 - consider a minimum $5 donation in order to be considered for $100 people’s choice award*. Fill out form HERE.

All donations will go to the preservation of the Milford Arts Council AND 20% will go to supplies for students and artists affected by the pandemic.

WHAT ARE THE RULES?

Sand Sculptures must be created in Summer 2020 specifically for this contest.

Winners will be chosen from eligible entries by the MAC Sandcastle Committee. This is not a professional or Masters level contest.

Judging criteria will include creativity, spirit, detail, and originality

Sculptures must consist of sand only with the exception of wood, rocks, shells, etc., found on the beach and used as decorations only.

No superstructures or permanent forms of any kind shall be incorporated in your structure. Sand forms smaller than 2 ft X 2 ft X 2 ft (flower pots, milk cartons, buckets, etc.) may be used, but only as forms.

The use of shovels, hoes, spatulas and other tools (except power tools) are permitted.

In addition to sending a pic to Milford Arts by 6pm (us Eastern time) August 28th , please also post your pic on social media ON August 30th with #macsandsculpt2020. Specify your beach location and any other details you’d like to share in your post. We would love to see social media blow up with beautiful sand creations! tag us at #macsandsculpt2020

*People’s Choice voting will begin on August 30th. A FORM will be available on this web page on that date. Winners will be announced on September 5th here and on social media:
