Good News in Action Network of Executive Women Scholarship Awards Luncheon

Good News in Action from the Network of Executive Women

The Network of Executive Women invites the local community to attend their annual scholarship awards luncheon.

For those who love to witness good news in action, the Network of Executive Women (NEW) is proud to invite local residents and business people to join them for an inspiring scholarship awards (virtual) luncheon.

For over 40 years, the Network of Executive Women (NEW) has been dedicated to helping support the educational goals of women, in order to assist them in improving their lives and their financial security. On December 1st, 2020, at noon, NEW will award scholarships to 11 inspiring women whose life circumstances caused a break in their educational goals. These women are now committed to continuing their education or professional training, and demonstrate a need for financial assistance.

Tickets are $10 for guests and $5 for members. All monies go directly toward funding future scholarships. Register at https://networkofexecutivewomen.org.

“This is one of our biggest and most important events each year,” said President Beth Stoller. “It is always a joyous and uplifting luncheon. Our scholarships change lives, and this year more than ever, we want to invite others to

share in this good news. There’s no need to leave home or office, because it’s a virtual event on Zoom.”

A great example of the success of NEW’s scholarship mission is a story from one of the many scholarship recipients.

At the age of 37, and at the height of her accounting career, Deanah O’Donnell made the difficult choice to leave work to focus on family. Two years later, Deanah, then mother of an infant and a two-year-old, enrolled in the University of New Haven’s Bachelor’s Degree program. She attended school at night because it was less expensive, and waitressed for money and the flexible schedule is offered, so she could continue to care for her children. Balancing school, financial obligations, and taking care of her two boys was difficult.

“I had some lean times, and did everything possible to make dollars stretch,” said Deanah. “I looked for grants and applied for all of them, but there weren’t many scholarships for part-time, adult students, or so I thought.

Prior to my third semester, I discovered that I would be $1400 short on tuition. I had very few options, and feared I would have to drop out of school. Then, I learned of Network of Executive Women’s scholarships. I applied and won! The funds I received helped me through the next three semesters. And ultimately, the scholarship was vital in helping me graduate Cum Laude, and continue on to a Master’s Program. I am so grateful to Network of Executive Women.

Having attained my Bachelor’s degree, I am now a Sr. Staff Accountant and EA (licensed tax preparer for the IRS) for a local accounting firm. I will complete my Master’s Degree in Accounting in 2021. And, because I found so many great relationships at NEW, I am a member and serve on its Board of Directors.”

Also on sale now are tickets for NEW’s Comedy Night fundraiser on Saturday, May 1st 2021. It is a major fundraiser and one activity that supports the scholarship fund. NEW is always grateful for the support of our current and future sponsors, most especially our Gold level sponsors: Executive Cleaners and Wanda Carlson - State Farm Insurance. Our Silver Sponsors: Milford Bank and Fred Astaire Dance Studios of Orange. Sponsorship details and tickets for all events can be found on: https://networkofexecutivewomen.org/

NEW welcomes professional women to attend two events as guests before applying for membership. Luncheon meetings are held virtually on the first Tuesday of each month, and there are several Network at Night events throughout the year.
