Weekend Lineup November 19 – 21, 2021

The Cultural Alliance of Fairfield County celebrates the vibrancy and diversity of the arts and culture across the 15 towns in our region of coastal Fairfield County and each Wednesday issues our free E-Buzz newsletter with a selection of the hundreds of events posted to our website by our members. 

Starting on Friday at 11am, the weekend kicks off with a holiday vibe as Ridgefield Guild of Artists opens its doors to “Festive Home Reimagined” This event is an annual holiday fundraiser where the white gallery walls of the Guild are magically transformed into a holiday showcase with furniture, home accents, artwork, and hand-crafted and hand-selected gift items. Open through December 19th.

Friday evening is all about dance as Sacred Heart’s Edgerton Center for the Performing Arts hosts the University Dance Program with its “Fall for Dance Preview Show”at 7:00pm. This preview of the fall dance production features the SHU Dance Company, Dance Ensemble, Claddagh Dancers & Inception Dance Crew!

You can find more dance on Friday and Saturday at 7:30pm as East Coast Contemporary Ballet performs Mi Vidaat Darien Arts Center. This is the premiere of ECC’s first full-length contemporary ballet. Mi Vida is the intricately woven tale of six artists whose individual and collective lives are as vividly charged as the art they create. Set in 1950’s Cuba to the music of Cuban composer and piano virtuoso Ernesto Lecuona, this original production is as full of passion, conflict, romance, and surprises as Lecuona's compositions. A wine reception and meet-and-greet will follow the show. 

Friday at 8pm, celebrate WPKN’s Gala for the Future by attending live, or live streamed from Bridgeport’s Bijou Theatre, Guggenheim Fellow, Jin Hi Kim as she performs the World Premiere of her A Ritual for Covid-19, a community purification performance in memory of the pandemic deaths. An innovative komungo virtuoso, Jin Hi Kim co-designed the world’s only electric komungo with custom designed computer programs. Her work reflects the duality of her ancient Korean roots and contemporary American society, with interdisciplinary works merging Asian mythology and Western technology.

Start spreading the news! On Saturday, 8:00am - 5:00pm, after a 20-month hiatus, it’s the Grand Re-Opening of Stepping Stones Museum for Children! Fully reopening to the public with four new exhibits, renovated spaces and engaging, new STEAM-infused educational programming. And don’t forget the renovated Healthyville® Café and new Gift Shop too!

Opening Saturday at 10:30am, New Canaan’s HEATHER GAUDIO FINE ART presents “Ann Gardner: Expanding the Perception of Light.” In her first solo exhibition at the gallery, Gardner displays new mosaic wall-mounted sculptural works that emphasize pattern, reflection, shifting light and color. Using one of the most ancient man-made materials, glass, her sculptures are presented in a range of formats, shapes, and scales. 

If you’re in need of a good laugh, head over to the Fairfield Comedy Club on Saturday at 7 or 9pm to see Eric Neumann LIVE!Recently listed as "One of the hottest rising stand-up comedians in New York" by Time Out NY, this New York City comedian was featured on Season 3 of Comedy Central's "This Week At The Comedy Cellar" and has been heard on The Bennington Show on Sirius XM. In 2016, he was a finalist in New York's Funniest stand-up competition for the New York Comedy Festival. When Eric is not touring, he is a regular at the Comedy Cellar and New York Comedy Club.

If you love a parade, then you will want to be in Stamford on Sunday at noon for the Stamford Downtown Parade Spectacular Party at Mill River Park. It’s a safe new format that keeps the energy and excitement that has dazzled the community for decades. This free community event will feature giant helium balloons, marching bands and dance/performance groups–all of which will be stationary allowing spectators to roam around the park and enjoy the festivities! 

And you’ll have three opportunities to hear five ensembles at the Greater CT Youth Orchestras Jack Lawrence Fall Concertsat the Klein onSunday, starting at 1:00pm. There’s so much great music in this concert it had to be split three ways - 1:00 pm, 3:30pm, and 7:00 pm!You will be amazed by what young people can achieve as you hear The Steel Pan Orchestra, String Orchestra, Woodwinds Orchestra, Brass Orchestra, and Sinfonia Orchestra. Guest performers, George Taylor on viola, and Renee Jolles on violin, both from Eastman School of Music, will accompany the Principal Orchestra in Mozart's Sinfonia Concertante at 7:00pm.
