FC Buzz Weekend September 16 - 18

Each week, look for a listing of weekend events and activities. The Cultural Alliance of Fairfield County celebrates the vibrancy and diversity of the arts and culture across the 15 towns in our region of coastal Fairfield County and each Wednesday issues our free E-Buzz newsletter with a selection of the hundreds of events posted to our website by our members. September is the perfect month to celebrate arts and culture in community.

This weekend, there are festivals springing up from Norwalk to Newtown, theatre openings, comedy acts, concerts, and other community offerings that will stream light into your weekend!

Sean Ardoin at Levitt Pavilion for the Performing Arts, Westport

Pack a picnic and grab a lawn chair or blanket to see one of the most revered names in Creole and zydeco music for FREE. This three-time Grammy nominee Sean has performed everywhere from Carnegie Hall to the New Orleans Jazz and Heritage Festival. Tickets can be claimed in advance online and may also be available at Box Office Window.

Lez Zeppelin at Wall Street Theater, Norwalk

Do not miss one of the most exciting live acts around - the first female rock act to pay homage to Led Zeppelin! Founded in 2004 by New York guitarist, Steph Paynes, this all-girl quartet has gained unanimous critical acclaim, garnering rave reviews across the board.

La Gringa at The Klein Auditorium, Bridgeport

Celebrate Hispanic Heritage Month with Bridgeport Caribe Youth Leaders as they present the longest running off-Broadway Spanish play by Carmen Rivera and directed by Rene Buch. This show is about a Puerto Rican New Yorker who travels to Puerto Rico to meet her family to discover her roots. Her misconceptions are transformed and she learns that being Puerto Rican is a matter of heart and spirit. The New York Times proclaims, “La Gringa unfolds in comic dialogue that arouses constant shouts of laughter and bursts of applause." 

Sunset Boulevard at Music Theatre of Connecticut, Norwalk

Opening its 36th MainStage Season, MTC presents a Tony Award winning musical, featuring music by Andrew Lloyd Webber and book and lyrics by Don Black and Christopher Hampton. This beloved musical introduces audiences to silent movie star Norma Desmond who longs for a return to the big screen when she meets struggling Hollywood screen-writer Joe Gillis in dramatic circumstances. Includes the songs “With One Look,” “As If We Never Said Goodbye” & “Perfect Year.” Sunset Boulevard will run three weekends through October 2nd. 

Glow Wild Lantern Festival at Beardsley Zoo, Bridgeport

Journey through a wonderland of illuminated larger-than-life lanterns, inspired by the wild world at Bridgeport’s. This event culminates a year of festivities celebrating the Zoo’s 100th birthday. More than 35 large-scale illuminated displays, featuring hundreds of interactive lanterns, span the Zoo’s 30 acres as guests are invited to walk through glowing corridors. On view every Thursday - Sunday through November 27th. 

Newtown Arts Festival at Fairfield Hills Campus, Newtown

Fri, Sept 16, 7:00 - 10:00 pm; Sat, Sept 17 and Sun, Sept 18 11:00 am - 5:00 pm

Come celebrate the 10th Anniversary of a unique multi-day Arts Festival! Singer, songwriter Amy Helm opens the festival on Friday at Newtown’s Edmond Town Hall along with a cocktail reception with cash bar and complimentary hors d'oeuvres. The festival continues on Saturday with dance performances, all day music, the FREE WAY of artistic activities and demonstrations, beer and wine garden and 10 food trucks. Over 60 area artists will be displaying their work for two days.

RENT at Downtown Cabaret Theatre, Bridgeport

It’s opening night for Jonathan Larson’s iconic musical! Set in the East Village of New York City, Rent is about falling in love, finding your voice, and living for today. Winner of the Tony Award for Best Musical and the Pulitzer Prize for Drama, Rent has become a pop cultural phenomenon with songs that rock and a story that resonates with audiences of all ages. Running through October 16th.

Aldrich Artists at the Table at Aldrich Contemporary Art Museum, Ridgefield

Sat, Sept 17, 6:30 - 9:30 pm 

Dine al fresco style amongst Museum supporters and Aldrich exhibiting artists at the Museum's annual farm-to-museum dinner. Set in the beautiful Sculpture Garden, guests receive dinner plus a menu card with a specially-conceived work by exhibiting artist LaKela Brown and chocolates by Bridgewater Chocolate.

Comedian, Michael Ian Black at FTC Stage One, Fairfield

Sat, Sept 17, 8:00 pm 

Enjoy an evening of ribald, one-man comedy with this Wet Hot American Summer actor and stand-up sensation who most recently starred in TVLand’s “The Jim Gaffigan Show” and Comedy Central’s “Another Period.” Black has also reprised one of his iconic film roles in Netflix’s “Wet Hot American Summer: Ten Years Later.”

Old-fashioned Flea Market at Lockwood-Mathews Mansion Museum, Norwalk

Stroll the grounds of Norwalk’s Mathews Park while it is adorned with tables of treasures including a White Elephant Table with items generously donated by supporters that run the gamut from gently-used to up-cycled.

Honey Harvest Festival at Bartlett Arboretum, Stamford

Buzz on over to a festival of family-friendly activities, honey and gin tasting & presentations, live music, food trucks, a marketplace with local vendors & artisans, a beekeeping Q&A panel, and the opportunity to explore the Bartlett’s trails & gardens. Dedicated to celebrating honey and learning about the important role bees play in our ecosystem, this free festival is not to be missed. 

Ann Hampton Callaway in The Linda Ronstadt Songbook at Ridgefield Playhouse

Enjoy an exhilarating night of songs and stories in celebration of Linda Ronstadt.
