Pantochino Announces Expanded Summer Theatre Camp Programs in Downtown Milford

Award-winning Pantochino Productions Inc., a professional non-profit theatre for family audiences has announced an expanded series of summer theatre camps for young actors in Downtown Milford.

“It’s our most ambitious summer ever, offering seven unique programs in four locations,” said co-producer Bert Bernardi. “While we continue to offer our acclaimed theatre camp programming, we’re thrilled to be able to expand as we introduce two additional programs including our very first ‘junior’ theatre camp,” he added.

Pantochino’s four-week-long Summer Theatre Camps, a program of the Milford Arts Council, is the centerpiece of the season. Each week, young actors 8 to 12 years old learn, rehearse and perform an original musical comedy. “Cinderella Pepperoni” is the featured fare of Session One (July 8-12). The musical mash-up “Rapunzelstiltskin” will take to the stage for Session Two (July 15-19). A new musical of prehistoric proportions, “Jurassic Mark” will debut at Session Three (July 22-26) and the final week, Session Four (July 29-August 2) will recreate a Pantochino favorite, “The Wizard of Oz (Sort Of)!” The four sessions take place at the MAC (Milford Arts Council) on Railroad Avenue in Downtown Milford.

The company will present it’s first Pantochino Jr. camp June 24-29th. The half-day camp (9am-Noon) is an introduction to acting, singing and movement for young actors age 6 and 7 years old. An original mini-musical, “Mothergoosical” will be the featured project. Pantochino Jr. will take place at Pantochino’s studio space in the former Saint Ann school on Ridge Street.

“We’ve had so many requests for a theatre camp for younger children over the years and we are so excited to begin this new tradition,” said co-producer Jimmy Johansmeyer.

A favorite Pantochino program, “The Theatre Games Camp” will take place on the stage of Veteran’s Memorial Auditorium at the Parsons Center in Downtown Milford for one week, June 24-29th. Designed for young actors age 8 to 12, the camp features small groups working in teams as they compete against each other in a series of improv and acting challenges. This one-of-a-kind, wildly popular program was presented in 2014 and 2015 and has been brought back by popular demand.

Pantochino’s Summer Teen Theatre returns for an immersive two-week camp (July 29-August 11) at both First Church and the MAC. The popular program for 12 to 18-year-olds will feature the Tony Award Nominated musical “Cry-Baby.” Based on the John Waters (“Hairspray”) film starring Jonny Depp, the musical is a campy Romeo and Juliet story set in the fabulous fifties.
