Synopsis:   Fireflies by Matthew Barber is a romantic comedy adapted from the novel "Eleanor and Abel'' by Annette Sanford. Retired schoolteacher Eleanor Bannister lives a quiet life alone in the small town of Groverdell, Texas, set in her routines and secure in her position as the town’s most respected woman — until a hole in her roof draws the attention of Abel Brown, a smooth-talking drifter intent on renovating Eleanor’s house, and possibly her life. Can the unexpected sparks of late-life romance be trusted, or is there truth in the gossip that Abel isn’t all that he seems to be? Either way, the whole town's talking.

Roles available:

Men:

Abel Brown – (mid-60s to 70ish) A traveling handyman. A masculine, effortlessly attractive, self-possessed, charming, and slightly mysterious man. Actor must be able to/learn to passably play Beautiful Dreamer on the violin.

Eugene Claymire – (mid to late 30s) A town police officer. A former student of Miss Bannister's who as a boy was never considered by her to likely amount to anything.

Women:

Eleanor Bannister – (mid-60s to 70ish) A retired schoolteacher and spinster. Dignified, proper. Respected in the community and set in her ways. This character is on stage the entire play.

Grace Bodell – (mid-60s to 70ish) Miss Bannister's neighbor and best friend. A busybody, a bit of a gossip, casual but polished, with no pretense.
