Artists 70+ Call For Entries Into Connecticut's Only Senior Juried Art Show

Pomperaug Woods in Southbury, a not-for-profit life care retirement community, has announced a “Call For Entries” from artists across Connecticut age 70 and older to participate in their 11thannual “The Art of Experience: Connecticut’s Only Senior Juried Art Show.” Entries are requested no later than June 22 and all entries must be created at the time the entering artist is age 70 or older.

Pomperaug Woods’ annual art show for amateur and professional artists began in 2008 with entries from 35 seniors from towns surrounding Southbury and 90 pieces of artwork. Today, the art show grows and flourishes and welcomes artists and their works from towns across Connecticut with 200+ entries. Pomperaug Woods Program Director Lisa Huebenthal, commented, “Entries will be accepted in the categories of painting, drawing, photography, and sculpture. First, second, and third place awards will be presented in each category.

“Additionally, each year we present the esteemed Tommie Davis Award to the artist who demonstrates feelings of beauty and life in his/her artwork. “Nature’s Nectar” by Oxford artist Mary Jane Ives Oxford was the winner of Pomperaug Woods 2017 Tommie Davis Award.

In lieu of Honorable Mention Awards in the 2018 competition, the judges will recognize the following four pieces of artwork: Most Expressive, Most Innovative, Abstract and Best Execution.”

On Friday, September 21, all accepted entries will be exhibited during a reception and exhibit opening at Pomperaug Woods from 2:00 to 5:00 PM for the show’s artists. The exhibit will then be open for the public to view on Saturday and Sunday, September 22 and 23 from 11:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.

All the winning artwork will also be exhibited at the Mattatuck Museum in Waterbury between October 7 and November 11, 2018. An opening reception for the award winners and their entries will be held at the Mattatuck Museum on Sunday, October 7 from 1:00 to 3:00 p.m.

To enter, artists can submit two (2) pieces via a photograph of each piece with an entry form. All entries must be submitted by Friday, June 22. Each artist will have at least one entry accepted into the show, and letters naming accepted entries will be mailed to artists on July 20, 2018. Exhibit-ready accepted artwork that is framed, matted and ready-for-hanging can be delivered to Pomperaug Woods between August 20 and 24 to be judged on August 27. Letters to all award-winning artists will be mailed September 4^th.
