Fairfield County’s Community Foundation Scholarship Deadline Extended to Sunday, March 31st for Almost $1 Million in Opportunities Fairfield County High School Seniors, Undergraduates & Graduate Students APPLY TODAY
Fairfield County’s Community Foundation (FCCF), the largest provider of college scholarships in the region, has extended the deadline for 2019 scholarships to Sunday, March 31st. The Community Foundation is calling for all high school seniors, undergraduates and graduate students residing in Fairfield County to go to their website, FCCFoundation.org and look for a scholarship that they qualify for or call 203.750.3200 for assistance.
At the Community Foundation’s website, you will find an easy, online application and descriptions of numerous scholarship offerings. In addition to the array of scholarships listed at www.fccfoundation.org, FCCF offers a wide selection of scholarships directly through most high schools in Fairfield County. Students and parents are encouraged to visit their high school’s websites and contact their guidance departments for additional information about current Fairfield County’s Community Foundation scholarships available and instructions on how to apply.
“We want to make sure Fairfield County students and those who care for them are aware of our many scholarships, so we have extended the deadline to March 31st to provide more time to complete applications for these amazing awards,” stated Juanita James, CEO & President, Fairfield County’s Community Foundation. “We encourage Fairfield County students to dream big and apply today for these scholarships! We have a vast array of awards available through the generosity of over 160 fundholders who are investing in improving lives for all of Fairfield County. Together, we can make your future and the future of our community brighter.”
This year, the Community Foundation hopes to award close to $1 million to more than 450 Fairfield County High School seniors, college undergraduates and graduate students to jumpstart their path to success. These awards range from $500 to $8,000 and some of the scholarships are even renewable. Since the Community Foundation Scholarship Program was established in 1992, over $9 million has been awarded. With over 175 scholarships to choose from, students applying to two- and four-year educational institutions and for technical certificate programs may qualify for any number of opportunities.
“These scholarships can help reduce the financial burden for students seeking to continue their education in college or pursue technical certifications, so we’ve extended the application period to give people more time to apply before the final deadline at the end of March,” concluded James.
The Community Foundation knows these scholarships change lives. For marketing student Jane Pollard, a scholarship set her on a path to achieving her dreams. “For as long as I can recall, I have been intrigued by the fashion and music industries,” says Jane. “My dream is to work in marketing in one of those fields.” Jane continued, “When I received the Walter Breslav, Jr. Scholarship, it took an enormous amount of financial pressure off me and my parents, and allowed me to focus on my education.” Walter Breslav, Jr. was a passionate philanthropist and an advocate for education. Before his passing, he regularly brought students into his brokerage office for learning opportunities. Today, his wife Elisabeth and their children continue his legacy through a scholarship fund with FCCF that provides Bridgeport students support to pursue a degree in business or finance.
The Community Foundation’s vision is to close the opportunity gap in Fairfield County by eliminating disparities in income, education, employment, housing and health. A major step in that direction is finding resources to pay for higher education.
