City of Milford Announces Employees of the Month

Congratulations to Christine Carfora and Shirley Rice Payroll Specialists in the Accounting Division within the Finance Department for being selected as Employees of the Month for June 2021.

As the recipients of the award for the Mayor’s Employee of the Month Program, please join us in extending a warm congratulation to Christine and Shirley in receiving this recognition.  After a review of all of the nominations, the Selection Committee unanimously chose this dynamic duo as the winners for their teamwork, excellent work performance, courteous and professional demeanor, and strong worth ethic.

Christine and Shirley began employment with the City of Milford in January of 2018 as Accounting Specialists. As a viable team supporting both the City Accountant and Accountant I positions, they post weekly journal entries to the General Ledger; provide support for end of month financial closings, including generating reports to the Finance Director, Board of Education, Food Services and Probate Court; assist with encumbrance management, utility payment tracking, and fiscal year-end processes, including the annual MUNIS financial system closing; conduct the annual audit; issue Form-1099 MISC and Form-1099 NEC at calendar year end; and ensure record retention. Responsible for the City Accounts Payable operation, they process over 300 invoices received on a weekly basis. When monthly tax refunds or quarterly retiree Medicare reimbursements are issued, Christine and Shirley process 500 – 700 invoices in a week’s time.

In conjunction with the offices of the Mayor, City Attorney, Public Works, Christine and Shirley co-administer the annual Refuse Removal and Recycling Fees Reimbursement program for condominiums, homeowner associations and mobile home parks. They maintain a payment tracking spreadsheet that is utilized for the following fiscal year budget. Christine and Shirley came on board when the citywide MUNIS financial system was in the midst of being implemented. Along with mastering new daily responsibilities, they had to learn a financial program being phased out and how to efficiently translate the processing onto the new MUNIS platform.

Christine and Shirley’s tremendous effort is evident each day. They work in unison skillfully performing daily tasks. Their positive attitudes, excellent team spirit and commitment are unparalleled. These are just a few of the many reasons the Mayor extends his sincere congratulations and appreciation to Christine and Shirley for the outstanding attributes they exhibits as Employees of the Month.

Again, congratulations to Christine and Shirley!
