Why Small Businesses Matter

Shop small, do big things for your community

You're IT Deja Vu!

Three questions with Erica, owner of Deja Vu.

Why did you start your business?

I started my business in April of 2012 about a year after I graduated college. I tried for a long time to find a job in the marketing/business field but there were so few job openings opportunities did not really present themselves at that time. So I just decided to dive head first into making one of my dreams a reality and opened up my own boutique!

Do you use any local businesses to support your business?

Supporting local businesses is a huge part of our daily operations. There are so many amazing female business owners in the area and we love to partner with them. Supporting local business and supporting women in business is of HUGE importance to us. If we can do both we always try to. We use Instagram to tag or shout-out other small businesses. We also carry a bunch of merchandise from local artisans like Karen Nicole Jewelry, Painted by the Shore, The TwoOhThree, Connecticut Candle Co. and many others.

How many employees do you have? Any locals?

The only two employees I have are me and my mom!! We started as a mother/daughter team and that’s just how we’ve kept it. I’m still young and love working in the store. I haven’t found the need yet to hire an abundance of employees. I love being involved in every single aspect of the boutique. If I had a few days off I’m not sure I’d know what to do with myself! I’d probably end up back in the store so it just makes sense that it’s the two of us for now.

"We’d like to tag S. V. Decker in Milford, Ct. She owns the cutest jewelry store in downtown Milford and she is one of the sweetest humans I know," says Erica.
HamletHub thanks The Hartford for making this series possible! Without their support, we would not be able to spotlight the small businesses that are part of the fabric of our amazing city by the sea! Visit The Hartford online.
