Have your Child’s Car Seat Inspected for Free

Is your car seat safely installed? Below are the centers closest to Milford.

Using an age-appropriate child restraint system in your vehicle isn’t an option - it’s the law. And reports have proven time and time again that car seats that are properly installed save lives.

In addition to Car Seat Clinics which take place periodically throughout Connecticut, parents and guardians can visit a local Fitting Station to find out if their child’s car seat has been safely installed. There are approximately 78 Fitting Stations in Connecticut, according to United Way’s CT211(https://www.211ct.org/)

Milford residents can have their car seat inspected by a Child Passenger Safety Technician at a local Fitting Clinic at 430 Boston Post Road, Milford, CT. Individuals needing car seat information, such as which styles are best for their vehicle, appropriate sizes, securing the seat correctly, can contact their local police department.... They are open 24 hr/7 days.  For more information please call 203-878-6551, or visit their website at http://www.ci.milford.ct.us/.

The National Safety Council reports that in  2016, 723 child occupants under age 13 died in traffic crashes; 213 were unrestrained, and many others were inadequately restrained at the time of the crash. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) estimates that car seats reduce the risk of fatal injury by 71% for infants (younger than 1-year-old) and by 54% for toddlers (1 to 4 years old) in passenger cars.

Not sure of where your car seat should be placed in your vehicle? Not sure if your child (still) needs one?

The American Academy of Pediatrics states:

  • All infants and toddlers should ride in a Rear-Facing Car Seat until they are at least 2 years of age or until they reach the highest weight or height allowed by their car seat’s manufacturer.

  • Any child was has outgrown their rear-facing weight or height limit for his convertible car seat should use a Forward-Facing Car Seat with a harness for as long as possible, up to the highest weight or height allowed by the car seat manufacturer.

  • All children whose weight or height is above the foward-facing limit for their car seat should use a Belt-Positioning Booster Seat until the vehicle seat belt fits properly, typically when they have reached 4 feet 9 inches in height and are between 8 and 12 years of age.

  • When children are old enough and large enough for the vehicle seat belt to fit them correctly, they should always use Lap and Shoulder Seat Belts for optimal protection.

  • All children younger than 13 years of age should be restrained in the rear seats of vehicles for optimal protection.
