Milford Police Make Arrest After Domestic Violence Incident

On November 26, 2018, at approximately 3:15 am Milford Police received a walk-up complaint in the lobby of the police department of a past-tense Domestic Violence incident which had recently occurred at a Falmouth Street residence.

The complainant stated a male, Matthew Smith (W/M, 38) 40 Falmouth Street, Milford, told her he was going to kill her, burn down her family’s home, kill any future children she may have, amongst other similar statements. The complainant also stated Smith pulled out a knife and threatened to slice her with it, and at one point struck her in the face/ eye area with a closed fist. Also, it was relayed to MPD that Smith may be in possession of an unregistered firearm.

MPD responded to the Falmouth Street residence and attempted to make contact with Smith due to the nature of the incident. Smith refused to respond to numerous attempts to get him to exit the home and an MPD perimeter was established in the area. Smith’s actions led to the Regional Special Response Team (SRT) being called to the scene, as well as, the Milford Police Department’s Small Unmanned Aircraft and Robot units. After exhausting other efforts and waiting several hours for Smith to respond, it was determined the SRT team would enter the home and make contact with Smith inside of the residence. After knocking the door open, the SRT team made contact with Smith, who then surrendered himself willingly.

Smith is being charged with: Disorderly Conduct Assault 3rd Threatening 1st Interfering with an Officer Smith is currently held on a $25,000 bond, to appear in Milford Court on November 27, 2018. P
