The 18th Annual Pirate’s Day Returns to Milford Virtually for At-Home Family Fun

You Can’t Stop the Pirates in Milford

Over the past two decades, Pirate’s Day has become synonymous with the start of summer in Downtown Milford, CT.  This year, Captain Kidd and his crew aren’t going to let a global pandemic stop them from kicking off the season once more. Although it may look a little different than in years past, Captain Kidd and his Crew are still coming to Milford to provide at-home family entertainment and fun with this beloved annual tradition.

“The mission of the Downtown Milford Business Association includes bringing our community together in a positive way,” said Tracy Bonosconi, DMBA President. “While we usually do that by utilizing our beautiful downtown space, this year we’re bringing our events and contests online to keep our community safe while supporting the camaraderie and togetherness that makes our little city so special.”

This year, Pirate's Day once again offers up adventure, treasure, and imagination—from the comfort of home.  The day begins with pancakes available for online pre-order and curbside pickup from Captain Kidd and his crew at Lisman Landing. Pirate dress-up booty bags and kids treasure hunt kits for home are also available for purchase, and can be picked up the day of or ahead of time at The Lovet Shop in Downtown Milford.  Then throughout the morning, virtual entertainment will be made available online, including performances from Rockin’ Ron the Friendly Pirate and, of course, watching the pirates invade Milford Harbor to kidnap the mayor.  Participants can choose from online activities, purchase pirate booty bags for kids and adults, as well as an at-home treasure hunt kit, and participate in Rogues’ Gallery photo costume contest.

“We’re thrilled to be able to continue this tradition during this unprecedented time,” said Pam Amodio, DMBA Executive & Event Director. “If we’ve lifted the spirits of even one household, we’ve succeeded.””

Pirate’s Day begins with pancake pickups at 8:30 and 9:30 am at Lisman Landing, 37 Helwig Street, Milford CT, and then moves online until 1 pm. Pancakes, dress-up booty bags, and treasure hunt kits must be pre-ordered online, and activities will be made available for whenever participants choose. The Rogue’s Gallery costume contest photo submissions can be made from June 7 - June 14, and prize winners will be announced June 20.
