Weekend Arts and Culture Lineup October 22 - 24

The Cultural Alliance of Fairfield County celebrates the vibrancy and diversity of the arts and culture across the 15 towns in our region of coastal Fairfield County and each Wednesday issues our free E-Buzz newsletter with a selection of the hundreds of events posted to our website by our members.

Kick off your weekend on Friday at 6pm. Enjoy art and music together at a brand-new Westport art gallery. A Night at The CAMP Gallery treats you to an evening of art by German artist Dominik Schmitt and jazz by Connecticut favorites, Chris Coogan and Linda Couturas.

Then head to Milford Friday at 7:30pm to meet a houseful of wild characters at the mansion of Dr. Frank-N-Furter as Pantochino Productions opens its live production of The Rocky Horror Show at The MAC in Milford. Equipped with a rock ‘n’ roll score which includes the iconic “Time Warp,” this comedic musical is an homage to classic B sci-fi film and horror genres. See FC Buzz Events listing for show dates and times through October 29th. For mature audiences only.

On Saturday at 7pm, Come and see what the buzz is about at the SHU Community Theatre Jazz Series. Matthew Whitaker is a 19-year-old phenom, hailed as an ”exceptional pianist” and taking the jazz world by storm with his adventurous covers and distinctive original compositions. Having started piano at age 3 and organ at age 9, Whitaker was named a Yamaha Artist at 15, joining the stellar ranks of pianists Chick Corea, Paul McCartney and Frederic Chiu.

For the “truest” sounding Lynyrd Skynyrd Tribute Band in the Northeast, The Bijou Theatre in Bridgeport presents Sons of Skynyrd on Saturday at 8pm. This All-Star band has been playing venues large and small all over the northeast for over 15 years, providing audiences the experience of being back at a concert of the original Lynyrd Skynyrd lineup with all the greatest Skynyrd hits.

If ‘Country’ is your vibe, then The Ridgefield Playhouse is where you will want to be on Saturday at 8pm for Josh Turner. With his rich, deep voice and distinctive style, this MCA Nashville recording artist is one of country music’s most recognizable hit-makers. From his 2003 Platinum-selling debut Long Black Train to his 2017 Billboard No. 1 release, Deep South, Turner has scored multiple GRAMMY®, CMA and ACM Awards nominations and received six Inspirational Country Music Awards.

Sleep in on Sunday just long enough to gather your energy for a fun-filled day and night. First, at noon, join in on some free family fun at The Fairfield Museum and History Center. The 5th Annual “Halloween on the Green” features trick-or-treating, giveaways, displays in the historic buildings, food vendors, a bounce house, and more!

Then at 2pm, experience the story of what it was like growing up as a Baby Boomer at the Grand Opening of the Baby Boomers exhibit at the Stamford History Center. This exhibit will display items & memorabilia such as ads of TV shows, toys, games, clothing, and comics books.

You’ll still have time to get a jump on Halloween at the Jack O’Lantern Stroll at Weston Historical Society on Sunday which runs from 2 to 5pm. It promises to be a fun harvest event for the entire family! Halloween jack o’lanterns will light up the historic Coley Homestead as you stroll and view hand-carved jack o'lanterns and vote for your favorites. Raindate: October 30

Closeout the weekend on Sunday at 7:30pm at Westport’s Voices Cafe, the live music venue in The Unitarian Church. The cafe kicks off its 11th season by opening its doors for a concert that brings together two groups for one powerful night of music - The Accidentals and Sawyer Fredericks. The Accidentals are a female-fronted, multi-instrumentalist power trio, about which Billboard wrote, “this group displays a genre-hopping range of influences and some smart songwriting skills to go with their abundant musical chops.” Live and streamed.
