Step OUT for Veterans August 6 – 14

Whether you like to run or walk, Homes for the Brave invites you to lace up your sneakers to help Veterans experiencing homelessness. The organization’s signature fundraiser, Step OUT for the Brave 40,000 Step Challenge, takes place from Saturday, August 6 through Sunday, August 14.

Each night, approximately 40,000 Veterans are homeless across our country. For just $40, this fundraiser allows participants to take their steps wherever they are during the nine-day period. A single step or 40,000 or more may be taken. All ages are welcome, and each participant will receive a Dri-Fit event shirt. Visit http://homesforthebrave.org/stepout2022 to sign up today, or to become a sponsor.

Participants can compete for individual or team prizes in categories such as most steps and most funds raised. Last year, participants took nearly 24 million steps collectively, with the top male and female finishers completing roughly 300,000 steps each.

A festive kickoff event will take place on Saturday, August 6 at 9 AM at the University of Bridgeport Pedestrian Mall with live entertainment and refreshments. Alyssa Rae Taglia of WTNH Channel 8 will emcee the event, Miss CT 2022 Cynthia Dias will sing the national anthem and musician John Fazio Jr. of Bethel, Connecticut will perform. All participants present will be eligible for great raffle prizes.

“We are just a matter of days away from the opening of Step OUT, and we are grateful to all those who are literally taking steps to help Veterans experiencing homelessness. We have already helped over 1,500 men and women get back on their feet, and return to meaningful and productive lives,” said Vince Santilli, CEO and Executive Director of Homes for the Brave.
