Winter Harvest at Pleasantville Indoor Farmers Market Saturday, January 21

PHELPS helps keep the Market Growing, Year-round!

Market Lead Sponsor Phelps Hospital Northwell Health will visit Saturday, highlighting their rich history of outreach and involvement in the local community. Their representative Nancy Lennon will have their Market Trivia Wheel so shoppers can test their knowledge in categories such as "Around Pleasantville", "When Is That Fresh?", "In The Kitchen", "Market Trivia" and more. Located in Sleepy Hollow, NY, just 4.5 miles from the Pleasantville Farmers Market, Phelps generously supports all the Market's culinary and health programming. Learn about Phelps Memorial Hospital Center by clicking here, and stop by on Saturday to give the Market Trivia Wheel a spin.

Open When, and Park Where?

The Indoor Market is open Saturdays from 9:00am to 1:00pm. And please, adhere to the 9:00am start to allow our vendors the opportunity to prepare. Click here for directions to the Indoor Market at the Pleasantville Middle School. Click here for a map showing our three parking lots and nearby street parking.

Vendors: Who's Here This Week?

View our Map of the Market to see where vendors visiting this Saturday will be located in the marketplace. You can also have a look at our Vendor Page for this winter's roster by clicking here -- note that each vendor's "Frequency" is listed, clarifying how often they will visit indoors each month.

In addition to our Weekly Vendors the following Rotation Vendors will be in this Saturday:

Plenty Of Fresh Green Goodness In January

Thanks to the skills of our winter-growing farms the Market has plenty that is fresh and green in the middle of January, including spinach from Gajeski Produce, kale and chards from Cowberry Crossing Farm, and mescluns, carrots and delicious, crunchy bok choy from Neversink Farm.

Phelps Health Tip: Goats Milk

Lead Sponsor Phelps Hospital Northwell Health shares the following tip: "Goats milk is a good source of protein. When comparing it to regular cows milk shoppers should note that goats milk contains 13% more calcium, 25% more vitamin B6, 47% more vitamin A, and 134% more potassium. Also, goats milk contains less sugar (lactose)."

Edgwick Farm Is Back

Edgwick Farm is back at the Market with their fresh Canterbury (soft goat milk cheese), 1/2 gallon containers of fresh, pasteurized goat milk, and a number of other items. They often pair their Caterbury with a seasonal jam for a delicious treat. Conant Valley Jams (in this Saturday) has also been highlighting how delicious jams are when paired with soft goat milk cheese. Pick up your favorite Conant Valley Jam this week, and create your own unique pairing with Edgwick Farm Caterbury.

Meats Of The Market

The Market has an abundance of great meats at this time of year. While Pura Vida's fish is easily viewed on ice, take time to review the marker boards at Yellow Bell Farm, Campanelli's Poultry Farm, Kiernan Farm and Cowberry Crossing Farm to learn about your options with these farms. Additionally, this week (and every 1st & 3rd Saturday of the month) Hudson Valley Duck Farm will be in attendance.

Neversink: Fresh Carrots

Neversink Farm grows carrots during the winter so that shoppers can enjoy fresh, just harvested carrots, year-round. Juicy and sweet, these are among our most popular items at the Market.

Healing Home Foods: Carrot & Seed Crackers

Healing Home Foods obtains Certified Organic carrots from a farm nearby in Connecticut to produce their Carrot & Seed Crackers. It's a good use (read delicious use) of root vegetables at this time of year.

Pika: Delicious Quiches

Perfect for a lunch or light meal, enjoy a small quiche from Pika's Farm Table, perhaps with a farmer's market salad. And ask Pika about price discounts she offers if you buy multiple quiches (since they freeze so well).

SHOPPER DONATION BIN

Consider contributing food: The Market maintains a bin every Saturday so shoppers may "buy an extra item of produce" to contribute to families in need. This bin is located in the center of the Market every week. Volunteers from the Pleasantville Community Garden collect all items at the end of the day, along with donations from farmers, and deliver them promptly to organizations such as Hillside Food Outreach.

Since its establishment in June 2014, the Pleasantville Community Garden has donated a total of 29,160 pounds of fresh food! All this food has gone to kids, adults and seniors who don't have enough. This provides nutrition, which is expensive, but is very needed for people, and our communities, to remain healthy.
