New Canaan Library Construction Update: Library Parking Lot to Close Starting Monday, November 1

After many years of anticipation, we are thrilled to finally be mobilizing to break ground on our NEW New Canaan Library building. During this expected 15-month initial construction phase, our current library building will remain open and operational, but our onsite parking lot must close immediately in order to get the site ready, beginning Monday, November 1.

Free Library parking in designated spots will be available in the Center School Lot, right across Maple Street. Please refer to the attached map for details regarding parking and pedestrian access.
Please note: There will be a new, one-way traffic pattern that maintains our drive-through book return. Several spaces for those with accessibility permits and limited 10-minute-parking spaces will be available on the library’s property. Cars may only enter from South Avenue, and may only exit onto Cherry Street. Please refer to the attached map, which illustrates this new pattern.

We are committed to doing our very best to continue to provide safe access and excellent service throughout the construction period. Please do not hesitate to contact us to arrange for special accommodations as needed.

We will now turn our attention to work on the preservation of the legacy part of the library.
Our architects are developing concept plans for options, to be presented to the Planning & Zoning commission in order to begin this important dialogue.

Here we go! Please visit our project site to share in the excitement of our building progress at newcanaannewlibrary.org
