Take Note: New Canaan Police Operate at 39 Locust Avenue Beginning December 4

The New Canaan Police Department will be temporarily located at 39 Locust Avenue as of Dec. 4, 2023 while a complete renovation of the current headquarters on South Avenue is underway. All services and operations for the general public normally conducted at police headquarters will be conducted at the new temporary location.

Parking for persons visiting the police station will be on Locust Avenue and in the municipal parking lot on Locust Avenue.

The Police Department on South Avenue will be closed to the public until the completion of the renovation, which is scheduled for late 2025.

A thorough listing of police-related services and detailed information about utilizing the services are found at newncaaan.info/public_safety/police. Commonly used services include obtaining records, reports and permits; filing a complaint; submitting an anonymous tip; fingerprinting; animal control; disposing of medications; hiring an off-duty officer; and more.

Ways of contacting New Canaan Police will not change. For non-emergencies, continue to call 203-594-3500. For all emergencies, call 911.

The renovation project at the South Avenue police headquarters will modernize the 97-year-old building for today’s law enforcement. Safety of officers, visitors and detainees will be enhanced; space utilization will be improved; full ADA accessibility will be provided; and energy and operational systems will be more efficient. The building’s exterior Colonial Revival architecture and historic character will be unchanged.
