New Canaan Turkey Trot for the homeless on November 19

Get ready for Thanksgiving with a short run around New Canaan the Sunday before the Thanksgiving holiday, November 19. The 5K run/walk will take place at Waveny Park on South Ave and benefits the Open Door Shelter in Norwalk.  

Post-race refreshments, embroidered hats available for $20 through November 14, $25 thereafter, awards to top 3 male and female runners and age group winners, and raffle prizes.

Race day registration opens at 10:30 a.m. Pre-race check-in at New Balance New Canaan beginning Friday, November 18.

All proceeds benefit the Open Door shelter.

About The Open Door

 

Open Door provides shelter nightly with over 95 beds in a facility located at 4 Merritt St. From this same facility they operate the Manna House kitchen and pantry and serve meals three times a day (over 20,000 per month) Providing boxed and canned goods to the working poor to help them make ends meet. Between the kitchen and the pantry, they provide approximately 60,000 meals per month to individuals and families in the community

Open 365 days a year and 7 days week. The mission is to effectively address the causes and complexities of the homeless and working poor by providing shelter, food, clothing, case management services, treatment services, transitional planning for short and long term goals, subsidized housing, education, employment, and a path towards independence and success.
