New Canaan and Darien Merchants Pledge Proceeds to Horizons on Giving Day

Over twenty-five local retailers and restaurants in New Canaan and Darien have pledged to donate a percentage of their sales earned on Wed., May 15 between 1-6 p.m. to the non-profit organization Horizons at New Canaan Country School. Participating New Canaan retailers include Press Burger, Walter Stewart’s Market, Vineyard Vines, Wave and the New Canaan Toy Store. Darien retailers include bistro Baldanza and the Darien Toy Box.

Horizons Executive Director Nancy von Euler expressed her gratitude to the New Canaan Chamber of Commerce, the local merchants and the community. “Thank you to everyone who is bringing much needed awareness and support to our program and to the 400 under-resourced students we serve from primarily Norwalk and Stamford.” Horizons is a non-profit that must raise its entire $1.8 million budget annually to cover the cost of its scholarship-based program.

“We hope that the community will join us in shopping and eating locally in support of this worthy cause,” said Ms. von Euler.

Culminating the Day of Giving, the recently opened restaurant and bar, The White Buffalo, located at 72 Park St in New Canaan, invites adults over the age of 21 to attend a celebratory event at 6 p.m.

For more information about the day of giving fundraiser, the Horizons program or to make a donation, please visit www.HorizonsGivingDay.org/organizations/horizonsnccs. Donations and pledges received from May 1 to May 15 will help put Horizons at NCCS in the running to win national giving day prizes.

Founded in 1964, Horizons at NCCS is the first in a nationwide network of programs that are successfully closing the opportunity gap experienced by under-resourced students. Horizons at NCCS builds deep and lasting relationships with the more than 400 K-12 Norwalk and Stamford students it serves. The six-week Summer Program and year-round academic and enrichment supports and opportunities are helping students imagine and achieve a brighter future for themselves. Last year 100% of seniors graduated from high school and were accepted into college. For more information, please visit www.horizonskids.org.
