Beneath a Scarlet Sky is the triumphant tale of a young man’s courage and resilience during World War II. Pino Lella lives a carefree Italian teenager's life until his home is bombed and his world is turned upside down. Joining an underground railroad to help Jews escape over the Alps, he falls for Anna, a beautiful widow six years his senior. Pino’s parents force him to enlist as a German soldier, with the hopes of sparing him combat, and eventually becomes the personal driver for one of Hitler’s generals in Italy. With the opportunity to spy for the Allies, Pino endures the horrors of the war and the Nazi occupation by fighting in secret, bolstered by his love for Anna and for the life he dreams they will one day share.

Mark Sullivan is The New York Times and The Wall Street Journal bestselling author of 18 novels (including the #1 bestselling "Private" series, co-written with James Patterson). Sullivan's solo books have been named a New York Times Notable Book and a Los Angeles Times Book of the Year, and have won several awards. He grew up in Medfield, MA, and graduated from Hamilton College with a BA in English before working as a volunteer in the Peace Corps in Niger, West Africa. Upon his return to the United States, he earned a graduate degree from the Medill School of Journalism at Northwestern University and began a career in investigative journalism.
