Art For Animals Exhibit & Event in New Canaan June 2-14

Carriage Barn Arts Center
"Art For Animals” Community Exhibit & Event
June 2-14, 2019
in partnership with Spencer’s Run and benefitting NCPD K-9 Program

This June, New Canaan’s Carriage Barn Arts Center in Waveny Park will be the setting of a community-wide exhibit of artwork and poetry that celebrates the bonds between people and animals.  Artists and individuals of all skill levels and ages are encouraged to participate by showcasing artwork or poetry that reflects their love for animals — from majestic wildlife to woodland creatures to beloved family pets.  All work will be included in a community exhibit at the Carriage Barn Arts Center from June 2-14.
Organized in partnership with Waveny’s Spencer’s Run dog park, Art For Animals will raise funds for the New Canaan Police Department’s K-9 program.  Officer David Rivera says “New Canaan’s K-9 unit depends solely on donations to operate, so K9 Apollo and I are grateful to be beneficiaries of this program.  This is a great opportunity to celebrate animals and raise awareness for how our K-9 unit benefits the community.”

Animal-themed painting, drawing, photography, digital art and sculpture will be exhibited, along with poetry.  Artists may submit work that will be for sale, and prizes will be awarded for youth (16 & under) and adults in various categories.  There is a $20 participation fee to exhibit a piece of art or poetry and registration is online at www.carriagebarn.org/animals.  Work should be framed or mounted and ready to hang, and delivered to the Carriage Barn in late May (date/time TBD).

To kick-off the exhibit, Spencer’s Run and the Carriage Barn Arts Center will host a celebratory event in Waveny Park on Sunday June 2 from 2-4pm (rain date June 9).  There will be an online auction for a number of animal-themed artwork, items and experiences.  Funds raised through submission fees, art sales and the auction will benefit the NCPD, as well as the Carriage Barn Arts Center.  Contact the Carriage Barn Arts Center at 203-594-3638 with questions or to get involved as a volunteer or sponsor.
