The Hannah Benedict Carter Chapter Daughters of the American Revolution are co-sponsoring with the New Canaan Museum & Historical Society, a presentation by Wes Haynes, Executive Director of the Merritt Parkway Conservancy.
Mr. Haynes will present the story of the origin, construction and impact of the historic road that changed the design of American roads and life in Fairfield County, the challenges the Parkway faces and what needs to be done to ensure its future as a safe and beautiful drive.
The Conservancy is a non-profit, member-supported organization committed to the protection and stewardship of Connecticut’s largest and most heavily used cultural resource. The Merritt Parkway is listed on the National Register of Historic Places and is a federally designated Scenic Byway, and was recently awarded by the HBC, the DAR's Historic Preservation Recognition Award.
