“Deck The Walls!” at the Carriage Barn Arts Center 4th Annual holiday exhibit & fundraiser December 1-14
This December, one of a kind holiday wreaths created by local artists, decorators, floral designers, local community groups and other creative members of the community will once again bedeck the walls of the Carriage Barn Arts Center, in New Canaan’s Waveny Park. The annual “Deck The Walls” exhibit and fundraiser will also feature small works by member artists and a curated artisan market, with all items priced at $250 and less. In a new twist for 2019, various designers will stage 'Holiday vignettes' of furniture, artwork and home decor in the gallery.
Deck The Walls was conceived to showcase the creative community while raising money for educational arts programs at the Carriage Barn. The exhibit will open Sunday December 1 and continue through Saturday, December 14 (gallery hours are Wed-Sat from 10am-3pm and Sunday 1-5pm). The one-of-a-kind themed wreaths will be for sale or auctioned to the highest bidders. Wreath donors include the New Canaan Garden Club, The Glass House, NCL New Canaan Chapter, Pimlico Interiors, New Canaan Mounted Troop, Stirling Mills Interior Design, New Canaan Nature Center and many more. The Carriage Barn will host a festive “Deck The Walls” patron party and shopping event on Thursday, December 5 from 6-8pm.
The gallery will also feature an exhibition of paintings by Christian Peltenburg-Brechneff, many of which are included in his new book “Into the Garden;” a vibrantly-colorful selection of artworks depicting 28 exclusive and inspiring gardens around the world. Over three decades, Brechneff has often traded his traditional artist studio to work directly in these exquisite settings—from Lunuganga in tropical Sri Lanka to the Aegean Island of Sifnos. Translating the immediate and sublime presence of nature with painterly impressions en plein air, Brechneff pays homage to the resplendent beauty of the garden and the visionaries who created them. Among them are the gardens of masterful designers such as Geoffrey Bawa, Bruce Kelly, Bunny Williams and John Rosselli.
“We are excited to be preparing for our 4th annual Deck The Walls exhibit which has become a highlight of our season and an unmissable New Canaan holiday tradition!” says Hilary Wittmann, Carriage Barn Executive Director. "This is a fantastic opportunity to visit the gallery over the festive period, be inspired, and shop for something creative and unique, while supporting local artists and artisans in our community.”
