Our local historical societies are strutting their stuff this July 4 weekend. While Wilton started early this week on Thursday with an ice cream social and colonial demonstrations, Westport is putting off one of its most popular attractions (because of the weather) to next Friday, July 9 for its walking tour in Green’s Farms Cemetery: “Paths of Patriots" where you will learn about colonists fighting for their freedom as well as about enslaved people fighting for their voices to be heard. On July 4 itself, in Southport, Talking Heads and Tom Tom Club drummer Chris Frantz leads the annual Bike Parade for the 3rd year running - from the Five Corners at 10am to the Pequot Library’s Great Lawn, for games, races and contests. Learn more here.
In Ridgefield, starting at 10am, the Keeler Tavern Museum & History Center celebrates with music (The Angry O’Haras playing bluegrass), colonial games and walking tours showing how colonial Keeler Tavern residents lived their lives. Learn more here.

And in Bridgeport, if you missed the ARTCADE last Saturday, make sure you catch “Here Comes the Sun,” a group exhibit in the Ursa Gallery in two spaces on the upper level of the Arcade. Drawing parallels between the transition from winter to warmth and the pandemic to a new normal, the show features work by a wide variety of artists including Jae Hi Ahn, Mario Baez, Miggs Burroughs, Chris Coffin, Erich Davis, Paul Eis, Frank Foster Post, Iyaba Ibo Mandingo, Franchell Mack Brown, Sooo-z Mastropietro, Takeshi Miyakawa, Sophie Sevigny, Marlene Siff, and Arjan Zazueta.
