Ten Great Things to do in May

1- Start planting!
The cooler rainy weather has been perfect for those early crops, especially peas and greens like Swiss chard that is really vitamin packed and keeps growing all season long. You don't need a lower forty either. Container Gardening can add bounty and beauty to the smallest balcony or terrace with ease.

2- Hear a band
There are so many great little cafes and pubs that bring in local musicians to warm up the crowds. Grab a few brews and cocktails and support local talent and experience a live show. Try out several locations and experience the sounds you like best. Consider hiring a band for your summer barbecue or event. Mind the Gap are excellent.

3- Power a Flower
Gardens are a delight in every yard in Connecticut. The ‘Flower Market’ celebration is on Sunday May 22nd between 11am – 2pm in New Canaan at the Pop up Park. What a great place to learn and find some new specimens for your garden. Stop by and buy.

4- Classic Car Walk
Also on Sunday, May 22 Caffeine and Carburetors, the classic car show is held at Waveny Park between 8–11am. If it's design you seek, this is the place to find it with proud owners and their prized cars.

5- Donate for a cause
I think Spring is always a great time to get rid of something, consider the variety of needs and causes that touch you and think about donating your treasure to a silent auction.  You get a tax write off, support a good cause and they get something unique and wonderful from a near angelic resource.

6- Host a Brunch
Sunday Brunch is possibly one of the most civilized things on earth. Host a group of your bestie to gather at your place and keep the menu as easy or complex as you can. These days you can hire a private chef for $60 per person and bring in CT Cocktailers to make the drinks. Serve lots of mimosas or Bellini and you'll be the next big food star, better yet, call it out to be a pot luck and let everyone else make their blue ribbon special.

7- Plan a 2 hour trip
Living where we do in this part of the country affords us so many sightseeing treasures all within an hour or two of our driveways. Aim north, south, east or west and you'll find towns, museums, nurseries, restaurants, vineyards, shops and galleries in quaint towns with historic references.  Fill your tank and drive away to a mystery destination or research a desired one. Main thing is to explore!

8- Take a hike
There are abundant trails and parks all around that afford you to exercise your body as much as de-stress and unwind. Take advantage of the milder weather before it gets too hot to enjoy the fresh air and visual beauty of nature. It's good for your brain.

9- Visit the Maritime Museum
Right in Norwalk is one of the states greatest treasures and that's the Maritime Museum and their collection of sea, shore and aquatic life for you to get close and personal with.  There are lighthouse, island and harbor tours that teach you about the nature and ecology that inspires us every day.

10- Go Antiquing
Connecticut is rich with the histories of our New England Forefathers and often an antique piece can inspire our sense of history and imagination. You may find a special treasure that speaks to you or you may learn from a shopkeeper about something that begins a new  passion of collecting. Take a visit to the many shops listed in local towns and spend a Saturday entranced by what you might discover.
