Internal Landscapes Featuring Art by Beverly Crilly Opens June 6 at New Canaan Library

“Internal Landscapes,” a highly personal and arresting exhibition from Beverly Crilly, illustrates the multi-layered landscape of a life’s journey. The exhibition opens at New Canaan Library’s H. Pelham Curtis Gallery on Thursday, June 6 and runs through Sunday, July 15, 2019. An opening reception will be held on Thursday, June 6 from 6–8 p.m.; a Q & A with the artist will begins at 6:30 p.m. All are welcome to attend.

Richly hued, textural and fluid in mood, Beverly Crilly’s art draws the viewer in, and prompts an internal dialogue. Crilly’s work is informed by her life journey and all the rich material that particular journey can produce. Her pieces mine and then distill the range, from pastoral to mysterious wildness, which is present in and around us. She works in mixed medium, blending layers of oil paint and employing such quotidian items as bubble wrap, drywall tape, or wire pot scrubbers to create her ethereal yet dimensional work.

“The work begins with viscous, sticky oil paint smeared, dragged, pushed or scraped across the hard blank wooden surface to create wonderfully saturated color fields and bold lines, “says Crilly. “Each work is a journey, built in layers-full of contradictions, mistakes, clean slates, experiments, memories, scars, truths, pain, stories, ideas, and need.”
