The Journey on Stamford Harbor

This past weekend, Stamford Marriott associates hit the water for some team building and participated in a local Cardboard Kayak Competition. The charge? To build a cardboard kayak using provided materials and race it on Stamford Harbor!

Stamford Marriott associates fittingly named their boat The Journey after the company culture proudly followed by employees of the Meyer Jabara family of hotels.

“The six builders were provided with 8 sheets of cardboard, 6 rolls of packing tape, and 3 rolls of duct tape to build a two-person kayak,” Stamford Marriott’s team Journey explains.

The Journey was about bouncy and the associates at Stamford Marriott remained on top! “Our team did an awesome job at building a strong, supportive kayak that stayed afloat during the whole race!”

Meyer Jabara Hotels believes that their company culture is not a destination or a human resources program of the month, it’s a journey. “It is a collection of all the small actions and big strategies, the monumental decisions and the minute interactions which make up each day,” they explain.

While at the Stamford Marriott Hotel & Spa, the employees are trained to accept the gift of empowerment and responsibility for providing superior customer service and differentiated repeatable experiences for hotel guests.

Leading the Journey is a management system coached by the renowned author, consultant and speaker, Dr. James Belasco and Thought Leader, Terri Tucker. According to MJ Hotel management, The Journey culture is a learning culture. “Several times each year,  the entire leadership team of Meyer Jabara Hotels, gathers to learn new applications for constant improvement,” they say.
