Ethan Allen Preparatory School at The Golf Performance Center Names David Newman as Executive Director

Charlie Wampfler Appointed Director of Academics and Operations

Twenty-five-year veteran educator David Newman has been appointed Executive Director of Ethan Allen Preparatory School (EAP) at The Golf Performance Center. EAP is a boarding and day school for students in grades 9-12 and an innovative alternative to traditional high school for junior golfers. Newman will oversee all programs at EAP, while Charlie Wampfler will manage academics and operations.

EAP, which provides a unique learning experience for high school students looking to become college golfers, designs individualized programs for each student. Woven into the curriculum are electives that enable EAP students to get a head start on their college careers. SAT and ACT preparation is also available. Academic coaches are on-site daily and internships are available to EAP students. All of the academic programs are approved by the K12 International Academy, a fully accredited, U.S. diploma-granting private online school for grades k-12. The K12 International Academy is accredited by many organizations including the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA).

Included in the curriculum is a significant amount of time allocated daily to the development of a student’s golf game at the GPC under the guidance of Founder and PGA Professional, Roger Knick. Students live on campus in new dormitories and they travel to Florida over the winter for one week a month for outdoor golf practice and tournament play.

“The goal of EAP is to prepare student-athletes for success in the classroom, on the golf course and in life. We’re proud to have David and Charlie with us to serve as the guiding forces of the academic component of the GPC experience,” said Knick, winner of the Youth Player Development Award by the Metropolitan Section of the PGA of America. “Their ability to connect with young people and their expertise in creating and implementing stimulating and relevant curricula for aspiring golfers makes them the ideal choice to lead us forward.”

Newman, a Ridgefield, Conn. resident, has served in a leading role at multiple private schools, including Associate Head of School for Institutional Advancement at the Wooster School in Danbury, Conn. for the past eight years. Previously, he was Dean of Students at Glenelg Country School from 2010-2012. He served in various roles at the Berkshire School, Sheffield, Mass. (2005-2010); Tabor Academy, Marion, Mass. (1999-2005); Forman School, Litchfield, Conn. (1997-1999) and St. Thomas Moore School Oakdale, Conn. (1995-1997).

Wampfler, a resident of Wilton, Conn., served as Director of Academics at the Owl Education Group in Boulder, Colo. for three years. She is a graduate of Miami University of Ohio where she earned a Bachelor of Science in Special Education and will soon complete her Master of Arts in Psychology from Pepperdine University.

The Golf Performance Center in Ridgefield, Conn. integrates state of the art training facilities and expert coaching to help athletes reach their goals. Beginning with the unique "Five Elements of Success" evaluation, The Golf Academy delivers customized golf instruction designed to provide aspiring athletes with improvement strategies for long term success.
