New Canaan Coronavirus Update: Social Distancing, Additional Drive Thru Testing Soon

It is 7:00 pm on March 21st and this is Emergency Management Director Mike Handler with an update on the novel coronavirus. We must continue to avoid group gatherings in our parks and fields. If necessary, we will close all town and school fields. Everyone should continue to thoroughly wash their hands, maintain 6-feet social distancing and avoid all group gatherings.

While difficult to convey in an outcall message such as this, there is a tremendous amount of work going on behind the scenes that we should all be very proud of. Our health and human services departments are coordinating efforts to bring outside agencies and volunteers together to support all of our seniors within our community. Mental health professionals from the town, public schools, and outside not-for-profits are working together to provide resources to help address our short and long-term mental health needs.

Increasing the availability of testing continues to be a priority. We are anticipating being able to offer significantly more drive-thru testing in New Canaan and will share our plans just as soon as they are finalized.  As a reminder, testing is by appointment only.

Appointments and required prescriptions can be obtained by filling out the three forms at www.coronatestct.com. Additionally, testing is available by appointment only at both Norwalk Hospital and Stamford Hospital. To obtain an appointment at either of these sites, you will need a prescription from your personal physician.
