COVID Testing Continues at Lapham Center, Rec Facilities and Antibody Testing Update

It is 7:00 pm on Monday, June 22, and this is First Selectman Kevin Moynihan with a weekly coronavirus update.

COVID and Antibody Cases
We have now completed 2,423 tests with our Stamford Hospital local Community Testing program and we have found only one confirmed positive case of COVID-19, and that one positive subsequently retested negative twice. We also have found only 84 antibody-positive cases.

This shows that the incidence of the virus in New Canaan is currently extremely low, but this does not mean that this pandemic is over for us or that we can let down our guards. We all must remain vigilant in wearing masks when indoors in public places, social distancing when outdoors in crowded areas and hand washing and sanitizing to keep the few cases that may occur controllable. You need only look at what is happening in other parts of the United States to realize that it takes only one person traveling from a hot spot to spread this very transmittable virus and create a new hot spot in New Canaan.

COVID Testing
Testing will continue at Lapham Center Tuesday THROUGH Thursday this week and next week, Tuesday AND Thursday, June 30 and July 1. If you wish to be tested, please register on the SignUpGenius link that can be found on the Town website at https://www.newcanaan.info under the red COVID-19 box on the home page. You do not need a prescription but you must complete the lab requisition form online. You must have an appointment secured through SignUpGenius to be tested, wear a mask to the test site, and bring your photo ID and insurance cards to your appointment. If you do not have insurance, the cost will be covered by the State of Connecticut Coronavirus Relief Fund. Please note that you must do both the nasal PCR test and the IgG antibody blood draw test.

Emergency Operations Center now at "partial activation"
Our Emergency Operations Center has stepped down to partial activation and will now meet once a week. We remain under State and local health emergency activations, however, and we all need to follow the various restrictions of Governor Lamont’s executive orders on Phase 2 re-opening of businesses and public activities.

Town Rec Facilities Reopen
As we reopen Town recreation facilities, we remind everyone to be cautious with hand washing, social distancing and wearing masks when using the parks and you are strongly encouraged to bring sanitizers to the parks to use as needed.
