Horizons Honors Graduating Seniors
To honor and celebrate the 28 graduating seniors in the Horizons at New Canaan Country School Class of 2020, staff, academic coaches and families attended a socially-distant celebration in two central locations, Scalzi Park in Stamford and Brien McMahon High School in Norwalk on Thursday, June 18.
Horizons partnered for the second year in a row with Bankwell to sponsor this event recognizing the hardwork and dedication of these students, many who have been with the program since their elementary years. Bankwell, together with contributions from the Horizons Family Council, gifted our graduates a new piece of luggage filled with essentials to help prepare them for the next step in their educational journey. 100% of the Class of 2020 have been accepted into college in the fall, including: University of Massachusetts Amherst, Penn State University, Michigan State and Dickinson College. Lucy French, Vice President, Marketing Manager at Bankwell expressed her congratulations to the graduates: “As a community bank, we take our role of being a good neighbor seriously which is why we are a proud long time partner of the Horizons program and sponsor of their annual graduation celebration. Congratulations Class of 2020, you've made it, despite the crisis of the day. All the best to you as you grow, achieve, and discover your greatness!”
Horizons Academic Director, Lavone Roberson said: "The Horizons Class of 2020 will always be remembered as the group that persevered through two pandemics; a global health crisis and a race war. Our students became essential workers, participated in peaceful protests and continued to move forward with smiles. I am extremely proud to celebrate this special group of Horizons students, and welcome them into the Horizons Alumni Association." The Horizons Alumni Association allows this cohort to continue their long-term relationship with Horizons, including career networking, mentorship and more.
Following the ceremony, Horizons announced that Alejandro Vasquez, a graduate of the Global Studies program at Brien McMahon High School in Norwalk received the Leah Kimmet Spirit Award.
