In a letter to the NCPS community, Bryan D. Luizzi, Ed. D. New Canaan's Superintendent of Schools shared the District's COVID Operations Guide: Charting our Course. Several town hall-style meetings are planned to review "key elements" of the plan. Please read Luizzi's message and view New Canaan School District's reopening plan below.
As a result of the tireless efforts of our administrators, staff, and Board of Education, and in partnership with the Town of New Canaan Health Department, district and town medical advisors, and the Emergency Operations Center, I am pleased to share our recently published COVID Operations Guide for 2020-2021, which is available on our new website, Charting our Course.
Along with the COVID Operations Guide, the website contains links to the Connecticut Interscholastic Athletic Conference (CIAC), the Department of Public Health (DPH), the CDC, and others. Importantly, it also provides resources and information related to student, staff, and family emotional, mental, and physical health during the course of the pandemic, and communications from the district since February.
In today’s world of information overload, our goal is to provide you with one trusted source for information about the New Canaan Public Schools and our plans for the 2020-2021 school year. Charting our Course will be continually updated to ensure it contains the most accurate, relevant, and timely information possible in this rapidly changing environment. We hope you find it helpful.
With the publication of our COVID Operations Guide, we would like to invite members of our NCPS community to join us in town-hall style meetings to review some key elements of the plan and to hold a question and answer period for participants. Each meeting will be approximately one hour long.

Since questions may be specific to a location, we ask that you please attend the particular meeting for your school. If you are unable to join us, please don’t worry! We will have additional opportunities for dialogue prior to the start of the school year, and we will be recording these sessions and publishing them online afterwards. Links to join will be available on Charting our Course no later than the morning of the meetings.
The cumulative results of our combined efforts have been excellent, and COVID trends have been positive locally and statewide. By continuing to follow CDC guidelines and protecting ourselves and others by washing our hands frequently, wearing masks in public, and maintaining social distancing, we increase the odds that the positive trends will continue, which benefits our families, our schools, our community, and our world. I am grateful for your efforts to keep yourself, your family, and each other safe and healthy. Truly, we have been, and remain, in this together.
