About 22% of New Canaan Remains without Power

Late this morning, Sunday, August 9, First Selectman Kevin Moynihan said that Eversource reports that about 22% of New Canaan customers remain without power at this time, or about 1900 individual locations.

Read Moynihan's update below:

Eversource crews currently are focusing on restoring circuits with 50 or more units, and then will turn to those under 50.

New Canaan has a substantial number of Single Light Out which will be the last to be restored and likely will go beyond Eversource’s midnight on Tuesday goal for substantial restoration in New Canaan.

If you remain without power and have access to the Internet you can look at the Eversource outage map at outagemap.eversource.com. If you remain without power and don’t see a flag on your location on the map, please call 800-286-2000 to report your outage.

Residents using Optimum phone and internet service may remain without service in parts of town that lack power.

Residents can find free Internet access and phone charging at the Library, and at Town Hall and Lapham Center (for seniors only). In addition, free Internet access is available outdoors around the Vine Cottage at 61 Main Street and on the patios surrounding Waveny House as well as at the New Canaan High School parking lot. Please be sure to wear your masks and maintain social distancing when indoors at these locations.

For residents in need of a shower, the Waveny Pool showers are available from 8:00 am to 11:00 am and 5:00 pm to 8:00 pm and the YMCA will be open for members and non-members from 7:30 am to 3:00 pm. Please bring your own towels and wear yours masks when entering.

Potable water and bottled water is available at the Fire House at 60 Main Street and at the South parking lot side of the YMCA on South Avenue.

If you need information or other assistance please call the Emergency Operations Center at 203-594-4100 from 7:00 am to 7:00 pm, or call the Police Department after hours at 203-594-3500. If you have an emergency please call 9-1-1.

Although most downed power wires on roads have been repaired please remember that downed wires anywhere are very dangerous and should not be walked or driven over and please do not cross barriers.

Thank you and Stay Safe.
