New Canaan First Selectman Community Update: COVID Cases and Communication via Everbridge

In his community update last night, Monday, August 24, sent via the town's new Everbridge emergency notifications platform, New Canaan First Selectman Kevin Moynihan said that Stamford Hospital conducted COVID-19 testing in New Canaan last week of several hundred New Canaan Public Schools teachers and staff, as well as a random sampling of parents and students, a total of 641 tests and all, were negative."

This news is positive as the new school year is about to begin. However, Moynihan warned that the CT Department of Public Health’s database also reported two new positive cases for New Canaan over the weekend. One is a 28-year-old female who tested with a non-PCR quick test and has subsequently retested negative twice, indicating the original test was likely a false positive. The second is a 49-year-old male who is isolating at home with no severe symptoms of illness.

"As we see spikes in other parts of CT, like Danbury, occur, we are reminded how fast situations can change. So we again remind you to please continue to wear your masks when indoors in public places and outdoors when social distancing cannot be achieved and continue to wash or sanitize hands when in contact with public surfaces. We also remind you that if you travel to any of the states on the Governor’s list of coronavirus hot states (except for less than 24 hours) you must quarantine for 14 days upon your return home; for the complete list of applicable states, please visit the State of CT’s coronavirus website," said Moynihan.
