Environmental Justice Professor to Speak at New Canaan Land Trust Annual Meeting

The New Canaan Land Trust will convene its 53rd Annual Meeting, held via Zoom, at 6:00 pm on Thursday, November 12. The annual meeting allows attendees to learn about the many ways that the Land Trust engages the New Canaan community in the conservation and stewardship of open space and features a guest speaker that highlights and underscores the importance of the Land Trust’s mission.

This year’s speaker is Gerald Torres, Professor of Environmental Justice at the Yale School of the Environment. Professor Torres is an acclaimed global scholar of environmental law who has spent his career examining the intrinsic connections between the environment, agriculture and food systems, and social justice. His lecture will provide an overview of the topic of environmental justice and touch on some of the ways that land and water conservation have both exacerbated and helped to solve varying social justice issues.

“Professor Torres’ lecture promises be both eye-opening and thought-provoking,” said Aaron Lefland, NCLT executive director. “Together, we can learn about how access to land, water, and other natural resources can shape a community, and how the strategic and thoughtful conservation of these resources can lead to a more equitable future for all.”

The Land Trust will begin their meeting at 6 pm, and the lecture from Professor Torres will start at 6:30 pm.
