New Canaan COVID Update: Case Data, Testing and Vaccinations at Lapham Center

This evening, New Canaan First Selectman Kevin Moynihan provided a COVID update reporting that last week, the number of positive COVID cases for New Canaan residents was 21, about the same as the prior week. "We’ve had 12 new cases reported this week so far. Most cases continue to be due to family transmission and in adolescents aged 10-22 years old.  Our Health Director continues to remind families to try to isolate a positive family member to the extent possible from the rest of the household," he said.

New Canaan's COVID-19 community testing at Lapham Center continued last week with three days of testing.  With all results back from last week’s Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday testing, Moynihan said there was 1 positive case out of 189 residents tested for a positivity rate of  0.53%.

Moynihan said, "These test results are included in the above-reported numbers. Our local testing data continues to trend well below the fluctuating State of CT positivity rate which this week has dropped below 3%. "

For updated information on the weekly cases, by age brackets, visit the red COVID-19 alert box on the town website at www.newcanaaan.info.

Vaccinations of CT seniors age 65 to 74 is underway!

According to Moynihan, the New Canaan Health Department clinic at Lapham Center vaccinated 300 New Canaan residents over the age of 65 with their first Moderna dose last Wednesday and will vaccinate another 300 seniors with their first dose this Wednesday. Those seniors over age 75 who were vaccinated at Lapham on January 26th will receive their second dose at Lapham Center this Thursday.

These clinics are by appointment only and all vaccine recipients have already been contacted and scheduled with their appointments. No walk ins are permitted. As a reminder, you must get your 2nd dose of vaccine at the provider that administered your 1st dose. The vaccine producers automatically ship the 2nd dose allotments to the providers.

The CT DPH has instructed providers that they must provide the 2nd dose to the individuals to whom a 1st dose was administered in order to keep the system working effectively and to complete the vaccination records accurately. If you are having trouble getting your 2nd dose appointment at a provider please contact your provider directly to rectify the problem.
