Town of New Canaan Directed by DPH to Prioritize COVID Vaccine Administration for Local Educators and Staff

The Town of New Canaan regrets to announce to residents age 55 and older that vaccinations of New Canaan residents at Lapham Center will be paused for the next several weeks because the Town has been directed by the CT Department of Public Health to prioritize local educators and staff first.

The Town explains, "We have been directed to vaccinate all educators/staff of our the New Canaan Public Schools, our three private schools, our 14 nursery schools and daycares for the next several weeks in a closed clinic setting. This was not a decision made by the Town of New Canaan but rather by the State of CT. We fully expect to resume vaccinating our residents over age 55 as soon as the task of vaccinating almost 2,000 educators and staff is completed. So we ask for your patience with the Governor’s plan to prioritize educators first."

There are several options available to you as a 55+ resident of CT if you would like to try to get vaccinated sooner:

 Try Stamford Hospital’s clinic at their website link COVID-19 Vaccination Information or call them at 203-276-7300 to schedule an appointment if you are currently eligible (including medical personnel, seniors over age 65 and those age 55 to 64)

 Try one of the pharmacies on the attached CT Covid-19 Vaccine Pharmacy list. The list has the pharmacy name and address but you will have to Google search for the phone number. The closest area pharmacy is the Walgreens in Noroton Heights at 138 Heights Road, Darien (203-655- 8904).

"We suggest you try Darien Walgreens first or visit their website www.walgreens.com to find any appointments that may be available in the area. The pharmacy route is likely your best bet; and if you are willing to drive to Danbury area there may be more availability at pharmacies around there."

 Register in VAMS https://dphsubmissions.ct.gov/OnlineVaccine (Helpful hint: you can change the area code to other areas that might have more appointments available than our area)

Another source of helpful information is the State of CT search tool at https://portal.ct.gov/Coronavirus/COVID-19-Vaccination-SchedulingOptions.

Pharmacy allocations are shipped directly from the Federal government so many pharmacies will have supply but you may only be able to find an appointment a few weeks away.

Continuing reading the below for the complete message from the Town of New Canaan:

The demand for vaccines continues to exceed supply and the hope is that with increased supply in the coming weeks more appointments will become available. Please do not hoard appointments at several locations. We are hopeful that we will be able to resume vaccinations to all eligible residents 55+ at our Lapham Center clinic as soon as possible.

We thank you for your patience in the changing process. If there are significant changes you will be notified by the First Selectman’s weekly outcall message which is also posted on our Town of New Canaan website each week at www.newcanaan.info under the Covid-19 red alert box page. Thank you again for your understanding.

If you received your 1st dose with the New Canaan Health department you will receive your 2nd dose on time through us. This only affects those seeking a 1st dose appointment.
