Town of New Canaan Appoints Albert Bassett Assistant Fire Chief

Mr. Albert Bassett was approved at the August 17, 2021 Board of Selectmen meeting to be the Assistant Fire Chief for the Town of New Canaan.

Mr. Bassett has worked for the Norwalk Fire Department from 1992 to present, most recently as an Assistant Fire Chief. He has also held the positions of Deputy Fire Chief, Shift Commander and Training Division. He is the co-chairperson of the Fairfield County Hazardous Incident Response Team since 2001, ESF-10 Chair of the DEMHS Regional Emergency Planning Team and is a current instructor at the State of Connecticut Fire Academy.

He received an Associate degree in Applied Science from Norwalk Community College in 2001, a Bachelor of Science degree from the University of New Haven in 2008, a Master of Business Administration from University of New Haven in 2013 and a Master of Science in Industrial/Organizational Psychology in 2018.

Mr. Bassett brings to the Town of New Canaan a wealth of knowledge and experience. He holds numerous State of Connecticut Commission on Fire Prevention and Control certifications along with being an Emergency Medical Technician and Instructor.

Fire Commissioner Jack Horner commented, “We look forward to working with “Albe”, especially given the extensive skill sets he brings to our department.  He has tremendous experience in many facets of fire safety, personnel management, and firefighter training.  Albe will be a tremendous asset to New Canaan.”
